Our destination on the 60+ mile bike ride. A closed bar! With stray cats and everything. A guy (did he own the bar? was he just a trusted townsperson?) had a key and let us refill water bottles. Then he told us that he feeds the cats and doves in the parking lot, and was born and raised in Jiggs, NV.

  8. August

I can’t believe it’s already August. This summer is flying by. Tomorrow I’m heading back to the far northeastern corner of Nevada, near Jackpot. Jackpot consists of a few casinos, a gas station (owned by a casino) and a general store.

    See a map here.

    Back Friday!

  9. July 31, 2011: My longest bike ride to date.
Roommate Dave and I did this ride yesterday in 5.5 hours flat (with a little break for lunch at the Jiggs Bar - photo later). It was so awesome.
The most grueling part of the trip happens almost immediately when we set out from Elko. It’s cycling up Lamoile Highway to the Lamoille Summit, which is about 720 feet of hill climb. After 60+ miles of riding up and down hills, the final descent makes it all worthwhile. Coasting for about 3 miles downhill is the GREATEST.
For perspective: It took us 30 minutes to climb the summit, and 5 minutes to descend.

  10. My last tour was 7 days long:

    • Mike pretended to play my ukulele (which I am still pretty much only pretending to play).
    • We hiked up a hill and watched the sunset over the desert.
    • a north and south view of our last camp site.
